Lar. Intestinos, Luar

, 2023, acrylic and coloured pencil on paper, 101,6 × 137,2 cm

Lar, Intestinos, Luar (Home, Intestines, Moonlight) is a reflection on identity as the amalgamation of nostalgia, memory, trauma and metamorphosis.

The house, placed in the centre of the composition, is the place of both death and rebirth, where identity is formed, nourished and developed but, parallelly and perhaps inevitably, the place of its trauma and destruction.

The home, represented through the house, becomes both a physical and mental space through its weight in the development of identity. To find oneself is to find a place of origin and belonging, a place of abandonment, and how those places live on in our minds, in the mental space they occupy, and how they metamorphose into different aspects of identity and life.

The scattered, old bodies of previous identities scatter the bottom of the painting like old, desiccated shells that are no longer necessary, but whose birthplace is still that house, that home. Shining above them, with a place amongst the stars, is a figure that dreamily watches over these shifts, serene but attentive and perceptive. They know their role and how they came to be, through its visceral connection with its separated parts.
